EditShare Transforms Media Workflows with the Launch of the EditShare One User Experience

IBC launch of major new unified interface

Boston, MA – July 20, 2023EditShare®, the technology leader that enables storytellers to create and manage collaborative media workflows, is set to introduce EditShare One as its unifying user experience at IBC2023 (Stand 7.A35, 15-18 September). EditShare One gives a single, streamlined experience across all of the company’s high performance production asset management and media storage solutions.

EditShare One boosts productivity by simplifying interactions, with an intuitive user experience at every stage of the creative process. Initial applications include Producer View, for assigning tasks and delivering comments and feedback to the production team, making collaboration simple, even across multiple locations.

EditShare One Transcription View

The AI-integrated Transcription View is a powerful new application that speeds up identifying the key points in large media captures. Users will find Transcription View and other productivity improvements visible in FLOW directly as well as in the FLOW panel in the Adobe® user interface, and Resolve thanks to the seamless integration.

EditShare is already transforming post-production through Universal Projects, which allows projects to be set up, linked to bins, and synchronized with whichever editing software package is chosen. The new EditShare One user interface and its innovative debut applications will deliver even greater productivity and creative control.

“Our users around the world talk to us about the challenge of creating exceptional content within tight time constraints,” said Sunil Mudholkar, VP Product Management at  EditShare. “That is why we have put the focus on strong workflows, using automation where it is practical. Now, with EditShare One, we have user experiences which are thoroughly intuitive and consistent, so you are able to sit at any workstation and understand the complete content flow and the state of any project.”

IBC2023 will also see the continuing extension of EditShare core technologies to support the modern media production industry. It is now common for content to be stored at multiple locations, in the cloud, and in remote workstations such as editors working on site or even at home. A single instance of FLOW maps all the content in every location and ensures it is ready. Automated proxy creation and integrated file acceleration ensure that the right media is always to hand.

“IBC brings the media industry’s leading creative people together“, Mudholkar added. “We are excited to show how we’re continuing to develop our platform to meet their real day-to-day challenges. More new introductions to the EditShare line up will be announced next month, so watch this space.”

Scalable storage and content management on premises, at remote locations and in the cloud

Boston, MA – May 26, 2023  – EditShare®, the technology leader that enables storytellers to create and manage collaborative media workflows, will show visitors to BroadcastAsia 2023 how its storage and workflow systems and solutions fit seamlessly into modern, practical workflows, growing as the user’s needs increase.

Central to the success of EditShare’s solutions is that it matches its powerful and resilient storage systems with software that provides all the production asset management and workflow controls needed by any media enterprise. The solutions can be implemented centrally, they can embrace remote locations, and they can use standardized cloud storage and processing, to meet the specific needs of each project. Users can start with a single storage appliance and grow seamlessly and without downtime to networks of many petabytes.

Putting creativity and productivity at the heart of the operation, EditShare provides direct support for all popular professional editing platforms, including Adobe, Avid and BlackMagic. EditShare FLOW software ensures material is formatted and packaged to appear as bins in the appropriate workstations, wherever they are, so the editor wastes no time in set-up and preparation. Where needed proxies are automatically generated, and Swift Sync provides file acceleration to move required material.

FLOW maps all the content in every location and ensures it is ready, whenever and wherever it is needed. That includes cloud editing, with the preferred software tool running in the EditShare environment in AWS.

“While technology is moving forward very rapidly, we know that our customers want to focus on producing great content to tight timescales,” said Sunil Mudholkar, VP Product Management at  EditShare. “What we will be showing at BroadcastAsia demonstrates that we provide strong underlying automation and intelligence, allowing creatives to focus on the results. Cloud Editing Costs Demystified

Stephen Tallamy, looks into the benefits and cost efficiencies of Cloud workflows with FLEX, Tyrell Cloud and AWS

Augments presence with customers & partners in the region and sponsors inaugural Manufacturer Awards

Boston, MA – May 04, 2023  – EditShare®, the technology leader that enables storytellers to create and manage collaborative media workflows, will showcase its latest productivity and creativity developments at CABSAT 2023 (stand S1-E20, Dubai World Trade Centre, 16 – 18 May). This will be the company’s largest presence at CABSAT to date. Underlining its commitment to the event and to the MENA region, EditShare is also supporting BroadcastProME’s inaugural Manufacturer Awards at the show as a silver sponsor.

The demonstrations will show what can be achieved with EditShare’s market leading EFS storage devices, available both as on premises servers and as cloud technology. The creativity and workflows are provided by FLOW, the software layer which provides asset management and system control.

The strong movement in production and post at the moment is towards decentralization: remote production; multi-site post; and hybrid on premises and cloud storage. The latest developments from EditShare reflect these changes, including FLEX for fast cloud implementations and Multisite, which provides the intelligence to ensure that media is available where it is needed, moving content from location to location, or from the center to a remote worker, to minimize downtime.

Also boosting productivity is direct support for all the popular professional edit packages: Adobe, Avid, BlackMagic and others. Material relevant to each project will appear as bins in the right workstations, wherever they are, eliminating set-up time and waiting for content transfers. Swift Sync from EditShare provides file acceleration to move material as quickly as possible, over any path.

“The Middle East is a really important, and very successful, region for EditShare, thanks in no small part to our dedicated Channel Partners” commented Said Bacho, CRO at  EditShare. “We always ensure that we have a strong demonstration of our latest capabilities at CABSAT, and the conversations we have with the media community in the region are very important to us, guiding future developments.

“As the leading storage and asset management specialists, we know how important it is for the industry to maintain strong innovation in creative tools and the rest of the content chain,” he continued. “When CABSAT and Broadcast Pro ME magazine set up a Manufacturer Award program, we wanted to give it our full support, which is why we are the silver sponsor. I look forward to seeing the innovations which the awards will spotlight.”

Demonstrations of EditShare’s proven storage solutions and workflow software can be seen at CABSAT 2023, on stand S1-E20.

Continuing developments driven by user experiences

Boston, MA – April 25, 2023  – EditShare®, the technology leader that enables storytellers to create and manage collaborative media workflows, is bringing its latest productivity and creativity developments to the Media Production & Technology Show (stand D40, Olympia London, 10 – 11 May). All the new functionality is designed with user experiences in mind for even greater creative freedom and simpler workflows.

EditShare provides both powerful content storage devices and the management layer to control workflows and track assets. This allows media to be stored on premises, at multiple locations and in the cloud, ensuring that users can work the way that is most convenient for them.

FLOW is the asset and workflow management software, supplemented with FLEX for fast cloud implementations. New at MPTS this year is Swift Sync, which gives users a way to share media across different EFS storage systems, with FLOW multi-site software automating the tasks of generating proxies and ensuring content is available where it is needed.

A major boost for productivity and creativity is the ability to support all the popular professional edit packages – Adobe, Avid, BlackMagic and others – directly. Editors will see the material relevant to their project appear as bins in the edit software, eliminating set-up time and the wait for material to transfer. Thanks to EditShare’s unique Universal Projects cross-platform tools, edit assistants can create bins and even rough cuts without even knowing which edit software will be used to finish the job.

“The great value of an event like MPTS is the chance to show just how sophisticated and supportive our architecture really is,” said Said Bacho, CRO at  EditShare. “We have time to talk through a user’s real requirements, and show how our software can be used to link EditShare storage nodes and deliver the workflows, securely and productively. Ultimately, our users just want to get on with creating their work, and our continuingly evolving software automates the underlying management and transfers to achieve just that.”

Demonstrations of EditShare’s proven storage solutions and workflow software can be seen at MPTS 2023, on stand D40.

Storage network allows iconic production to grow and develop

Boston, MA, March 16, 2023EditShare®, the technology leader that enables storytellers to create and manage collaborative media workflows, has supplied two post-production storage nodes to the production responsible for This Old House, US television’s hugely popular restoration show which focuses on the crafts that go into renovating buildings. The show reaches audiences of tens of millions of enthusiastic fans and has 21 Emmy® Awards and 119 nominations.

This Old House started in 1979 and is now in its 44th season. Based in its own facilities in Concord, Massachussetts, the company was recently acquired by the streaming platform, Roku and has seen a huge upsurge in activity.

Working with EditShare’s channel partner T2|Computing, This Old House recently installed two EFS300 160TB storage nodes. The initial goal was to supplement the existing storage and asset management system with a more flexible, more dynamic store to meet the workflow and throughput challenges of the expanded output.

Michael Svirsky
Post Production Manager, Roku Inc.

Michael Svirsky has been overseeing post-production systems and solutions at This Old House for 16 years. “The Roku acquisition has driven a rapid expansion with new shows and more output,” he said. “The result is that we need new workflows and much greater accessibility to our media.

“EditShare understands the requirements for post today, which is one of our main reasons for choosing them and to move increasingly towards the workflows that they can offer us,” he continued. “Reliability is also very important to us: when you have a huge number of assets and over 1,000 episodes you cannot risk the slightest chance of anything disappearing.”

Said Bacho, CRO at Editshare, added “This Old House has been making programs for four decades, and using shared storage for 16 years, but Michael Svirsky and his team recognize that they have to continually develop and refine their workflows to ensure they are delivering the best creativity in the most ordered way. They also face the challenge of originating in 4k, and even 8k, so the storage demand is growing exponentially.

“They are a great team to work with. I am very pleased that we have been able to provide the agile storage they need, and we’re looking forward to helping them with new, dynamic ways of working in the future.”

Continuing enhancements deliver a great leap forward for productivity

Boston, MA – February 2, 2023  – EditShare®, the technology leader that enables storytellers to create and manage collaborative media workflows, will use NAB2023 (booth N2100, Las Vegas Convention Center, 16 – 19 April) to unveil its latest productivity and creativity enhancements. The continuing development of EditShare core functionality is targeted at creative freedom and simpler, more resilient and secure workflows.

EditShare’s workflow solutions are driven by its market-leading EFS Storage and FLOW media management – these are combined in FLEX for fast cloud implementations. By integrating post-production storage on premises, at multiple locations and in the cloud, connectivity is at the heart of the workflow and serves multiple market verticals and applications in broadcast, production, post, education, sports, news, corporate/enterprise, and houses of worship.

Swift Sync gives users a way to share media across different EFS systems in the cloud, on prem or in between. Users can select all or some of their media spaces in any location and bring it into their workspace, whether they are in a facility, working at a remote location or using cloud editing via a desktop emulator. FLOW provides support for multiple streams of multiple codecs. In addition the latest EFS release delivers as much as a 60% increase in throughput for certain codecs/configurations from the previous hardware/software.

Editors use the tools of their choice because FLOW and FLEX integrate with software from Adobe, Avid, BlackMagic and others without having to change screens. Included in this spring release are a number of features and improvements to our FLOW Panel for use with Premiere® specifically. Collaborative teams can easily connect with each other using EditShare’s unique Universal Projects technology, providing a seamless means of exchanging projects between post production users and platforms.

EditShare’s advanced set of open APIs means it’s easy to integrate tools from partner companies and third-party vendors, whether that is capture software from Cinedeck, workflow orchestration from Helmut, cloud hosting from AWS, AI capabilities from Audimus and Mobius, NRCS systems and more, many of which will be demonstrated at the show.

To ensure that mission critical content flows – like channel playout or fast turnaround editing – are never compromised, users can now manage storage access  bandwidth to guarantee quality of service for each workstation, user or group with EditShare’s new bandwidth control capabilities in EFS. The latest release also moves to streamline and simplify still further the new web user interface in FLOW, and to make FLEX Cloud Edit+ easier to deploy through intuitive user interfaces without the need for cloud specialists.

“At EditShare, our goal is always to let creative users get on with the storytelling, by making the technology transparent” said Sunil Mudholkar, VP Product at  EditShare. “The more we make the infrastructure & services intuitive to use – whether it is on premises, in remote locations or in the cloud – then the greater the availability, the reliability and the productivity. That is what our users tell us they want, and that is what we are striving to deliver.”

The latest versions of all of EditShare’s proven storage solutions and workflow software can be seen at NAB2023, on booth N2100.

Major UAE post house builds foundation for continuing expansion

Boston, MA, February 6, 2023EditShare®, the technology leader that enables storytellers to create and manage collaborative media workflows, has implemented a comprehensive storage and media management platform for Last Cut Media, based in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates. The system was implemented in conjunction with Advanced Media Trading, EditShare’s distribution partner in the region.

Last Cut Media was increasingly finding workflow limitations in its ad hoc storage systems, so was determined to move to a coherent and powerful single-point solution. Having evaluated the market, the company identified the EditShare solution as the ideal match for their requirements.

The initial architecture for the system features a 160TB EFS shared storage node with the full functionality of the EditShare FLOW media management platform. This works in conjunction with a 240TB nearline store for disaster recovery as well as rapid access to content as projects require it. Long-term storage is on LTO-8 tapes, using EditShare ARK archiving software and hardware.

“We provide state-of-the-art services to users across the Gulf region from our base in Abu Dhabi,” said Saad Duaibes, Founder & Creative Director at Last Cut Media. “The new workflow and storage system from EditShare allows us to be much more flexible and productive, delivering the performance and quality that our clients expect. We also appreciate the way that EditShare is designed for remote access and multiple locations: we have bold plans for growth including a facility in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia in the near future.”

Among the workflow improvements opened up by the EditShare video content management system is the capability of remote editing, allowing productions to access their files from wherever they are shooting and wherever the editor is working. EditShare FLOW ensures that, as content is ingested, so proxy files are automatically generated allowing remote editing from any location.

FLOW also provides for rigorous content and metadata management, and automated secure archiving according to business rules set up for each project. Last Cut Media covers the whole range of post from commercials to movies, drama serials and documentaries, so needs to be able to set workflows and functionality by project, with complete security between clients.

Said Bacho, Chief Revenue Officer at EditShare, said “Working with Advanced Media Trading, we displayed to Last Cut Media that we could provide solutions from a secure and orderly transfer of existing content to long-term archiving strategies, to comprehensive training.”

Bacho continued, “Having a strong presence in the Middle East also gave Last Cut the confidence that our solution is well supported as well as technically the best for their needs.”

MBC Group and a division of the Dubai Government focus on server redundancy and tape archiving

Boston, MA, January 23, 2023EditShare®, the technology leader that enables storytellers to create and manage collaborative media workflows, has delivered two large-scale EFS storage network systems, alongside FLOW workflow tools, to clients in the UAE. The solutions were designed and implemented by EditShare’s systems integration partner in the region, UBMS (United Broadcast & Media Solutions).

This division of  the Dubai Government has been a user of EditShare storage for over five years. To provide access to all users from a common location it has now returned to EditShare for an extended storage node, a fully redundant backup site in an alternative location, and an LTO tape-based ARK archive sub-system.

Leading regional broadcaster MBC Group, based in Abu Dhabi, needed to boost production workflows at its facilities, and has now implemented its first EditShare EFS storage network. Again, redundancy was important with two alternative locations and an ARK tape archive maintained in synchronization by the FLOW media asset management system that resides on the EditShare storage network. The result is that content can be ingested as soon as it is shot, and it is immediately available to all the editors, whatever editing software they choose.

“The EditShare platform provides all the functionality that these two very different customers needed,” said Rayan Nasser, Head of Projects at UBMS. “We were able to configure the systems as each user required, setting up business rules for synchronization and archiving to provide the highly resilient, highly productive solutions they sought.

“We have been working with this division of the Dubai Government for a long time, so we understand their requirements and workflows well,” Nasser added. “This was our first project with MBC, and we supplied them with the complete production system, including cameras from Sony and ARRI.  EditShare sits well in such a high-profile production workflow.”

Said Bacho, Chief Revenue Officer at EditShare, added “We are delighted to be involved with two important high-profile storage implementations in the Middle East region. We understand the significance of protecting valuable assets and this fully fledged EditShare solution, with complete redundancy, ensures that robust, secure and cost-efficient workflows are maintained across these mission critical environments.”

The production platform for MBC is now online. The new storage network for this division of the Dubai Government is being implemented as part of a rolling program of enhancements.

Chello is an agency that believes the role of brand has never been more important. They also bridge the gap between brand and content and promote the ethos that when you know who you are as a brand and what you represent, what you say and what you create all becomes a lot more meaningful. Chello also adopt a similar forward-thinking approach to their technology and post-production storage solutions, which recently they upgraded with Digistor and EditShare.

Chello co-founder and creative director, Tristan Velasco

Chello co-founder and creative director, Tristan Velasco, explained, “We had just moved to new offices and figured it was the right time to upgrade our storage solutions. Previously, we were using Synology NAS’ but we knew we needed something that was more reliable at much higher speeds – particularly to be able to edit 4K+ footage. We had been speaking to a number of agencies that we knew in video production and EditShare had been mentioned a few times. When we got in touch with Digistor, it was the one they recommended as well, so we felt confident enough that it would be the right system for us.”

They also required automated backup and archive solutions, via archiware, in order to be able to easily back up and archive projects. Then the storage solution had to be easily scalable and everyone in the agency needed to have remote access to the server through the company’s network.

Velasco added, “Put simply, the EditShare solution easily met all of our requirements and we are yet to even maximise how we use EditShare FLOW.”

In total Chello purchased EditShare’s EFS software defined ecosystem and EditShare FLOW media management for their data storage solution and daily workflow.

Typically, they use EFS to store all recent and live projects across video, animation and design and manage all project files via a templated folder structure. This contains all raw footage and source files including photography, 3D assets, illustrations, all project files and their various versions, delivery files across video, animation and design and production related files.

Velasco continued, “When we were researching the benefits of EditShare I remember other solutions being in the mix but, based on the recommendations from Digistor and our own subsequent research, we felt EditShare was by far the best solution that met our needs at the time and into the future. The main thing for us was how smart EditShare products are and how the entire EditShare solution was put together for us by Digistor. We had a really clear idea on what it needed to do based on our requirements above and it met all of those requirements.”

According to Velasco their EditShare solution and relationship with Digistor give Chello a clear edge as he concluded, “From a technology and workflow perspective, the edge EditShare gives us is primarily around the speed at which we are able to work on projects requiring really large file sizes, the security of our backup systems and archive systems. It’s second to none. We’ve been working with Digistor for many years now and without having an IT department, the team that we work with there really feel like they’re an extension of our team. They are incredibly responsive to any request – especially emergencies, are patient with managing our requests and are just really nice people. Especially for me, who had managed all IT issues prior to the engagement, it has saved me a lot of time being able to rely on Digistor to support myself and the team. In other words, Digistor are an absolute 10 out of 10 for me.”
