Rede Evangelizar boosts capabilities and moves to cloud archive with EditShare

Brazilian broadcaster adds storage, control and cloud sync

Boston, MA, November 29, 2022EditShare®, the technology leader that enables storytellers to create and manage collaborative media workflows, has greatly extended its storage and content management system at Rede Evangelizar é Preciso, the religious broadcaster in Brazil. As well as boosting operational performance, the new installation also allows Rede Evangelizar to migrate its archive from LTO tapes to the cloud.

Rede Evangelizar, under the guidance of Father Reginaldo Manzotti, was launched in 2011, based in the city of Curitiba, south-west of São Paulo. As its success continued to grow, it extended its in-house production and post facilities, adding its first EditShare servers in 2017.

This major expansion, designed and implemented by EditShare’s local system integration partner CIS Group, includes a FLOW Ingest server and EFS online storage, as well as FLOW asset management, metadata controller and additional production nodes. The integral FLEX Cloud Sync software applications ensure that all media is securely backed up, with archives and restore functionality in the Amazon Web Services (AWS) cloud.

“We had found our original EditShare installation to be a very powerful tool for us,” said Renan Borges, post production coordinator at Rede Evangelizar é Preciso. “As our productions grew in size and complexity, we needed to boost our operational performance and allow more users access to our content. EditShare and CIS Group readily understood our requirements, and proposed an excellent technical solution, support for the migration, and the ability to move our archive to the cloud which gives us lifecycle cost savings as well as easier operations.”

Said Bacho, Chief Revenue Officer at EditShare added, “CIS Group was able to put together a very attractive package, including long-term licensing and continuing support, it meant we could deliver all the functionality Rede Evangelizar needed, at the right price point, and help them achieve the operational streamlining they sought.”

“It’s important to see that the partnership between CIS and EditShare has brought a level of trust to our customers. With the upgrade of Rede Evangelizar’s system to the new EditShare FLOW tools, we will optimize the end-to-end workflow, offer greater productivity and efficiency, and also guarantee greater production quality,” said Alberto Santana, Territory Account Manager at CIS Group. The extensions to the EditShare architecture at Rede Evangelizar are being installed at the end of 2022, and will go live in the first quarter of 2023.

Storage and workflow network supports multiple editing system vendors

Boston, MA, October 17, 2022EditShare®, the technology leader that enables storytellers to create and manage collaborative media workflows, has delivered a comprehensive post-production storage platform to the Sharjah Government Media Bureau (SMGB) in the United Arab Emirates. The new system provides unified, one-touch workflow access allowing SMGB to expand its activities and meet its goal of migrating to 4K UHD.

The new system is built on EditShare’s EFS 300 storage architecture and is fully redundant. It includes online and nearline storage, and archiving to an Ark LTO tape library, all incorporated in the same workflow engine and accessed by EditShare FLOW asset management software.

The system replaces a post-production and storage network which was tied to a single vendor. One advantage of the EditShare FLOW architecture is that it is agnostic to post-production tools: SGMB was keen to support multiple edit platforms on the network, to allow users to select the tools they are most comfortable with.

“With our previous system reaching end of life, it gave us a chance to define what we really needed from a broadcast media storage network,” said Maher Kazmouz, Manager, Media Department for His Highness Ruler of Sharjah. “Key goals were the ability to work at 4K resolution and HD, to be flexible in the file formats and creative software tools we use, and to have a single point of control from ingest to archive. EditShare showed they could meet all our requirements and provide us with capability for future expansion.”

The system was implemented by Broadcast Solutions Middle East, a systems integrator and EditShare channel partner. “Sharjah Government Media Bureau were impressed by the flexibility and reliability we could offer with EditShare technology,” said Laurent Mairet, Managing Partner at Broadcast Solutions Middle East. “They also appreciated that, along with our active local support, EditShare has a strong presence in the Emirates so they could be confident that should an issue arise, it would be solved immediately.”

Said Bacho, Chief Revenue Officer at EditShare, added “Together with Broadcast Solutions, we provided a complete turnkey system, from the hardware to the 10 gigabit ethernet switches as well as all the software and open interfaces to third-party devices. Most important, we provide an environment completely agnostic to editing software, so it is easy for SGMB to add Adobe® Premiere® Pro to their Media Composer functionality, with simple integration into FLOW. This allows editors to concentrate on creating great content without the need for time dedicated to setting projects up and finding and moving material. It is this level of intuitive workflow support that sets EditShare apart.”

Cloud-ready network forms bedrock of major new investment program

Boston, MA, September 21, 2022EditShare®, the technology leader that enables storytellers to create and manage collaborative media workflows, has supplied a FLOW asset management system to Brazilian production company Fabrika. The powerful new facilities are central to Fabrika’s bold plans to move into major productions and its own OTT streaming channel.

As well as producing its own content, Fabrika also provides the content storage facilities for the Office of the Presidency of the Republic of Brazil. With this, the company made the decision to invest in its own asset management facilities, as early as 2007.

With a shift in business model towards commercial production as well as long-form television, and plans for OTT services, Fabrika recognized the need for powerful new facilities and turned to systems integration company CIS Group and EditShare’s FLOW to help fulfil this requirement. Its first channel, the education-focused Cientik, will be launched in September 2022.

“We needed a new asset management platform, with more agility and good integration with cloud solutions,” said José Luiz Nogueira, Partner and Founder of Fabrika. “CIS has been our consultant and partner for many years, and we turned to them to support us in defining our requirements and the purchase decision.”

“CIS works regularly with EditShare, and when we tested their FLOW asset management system it was clearly the best choice for Fabrika,” added Nogueira. “It is a high performance, scalable solution, and it offers a complete orchestration of workflows and work processes. CIS and EditShare could point to successful deployments around the world, and we were very confident they could meet our requirements.”

The new installation at Fabrika is built on the EFS300 storage nodes, with FLOW asset management software tuned to the requirements of post-production workflows. It was installed by CIS in August and is now in use across all of Fabrika’s departments.

“What we have delivered to Fabrika is a compact and cost-effective solution that allows them to catalog, browse, collaborate, edit and archive, all from a single layer of user interface,” commended Said Bacho, Chief Revenue Officer at EditShare. “It is more than just asset management: it provides the complete post production ecosystem, allowing users to edit from wherever they are.”

Ricardo Freitas, Service Account Manager at CIS Group, stated, “As admirers and partners of Fabrika for quite some time, and on multiple fronts, we were well-equipped to understand Fabrika’s unique requirements, and operational preferences. Upon defining priorities and use cases, we were able to architect a solution, leveraging the capabilities of EditShare FLOW, in order to provide Fabrika with an ideal tool for their content management, editorial, and archiving needs in a secure, reliable, and scalable manner. With these workflows, Fabrika’s producers and editors will be enabled to create more content quicker, driving operational efficiencies by decreasing overall time-to-delivery”.

Latest investment includes storage, automated workflows, quality control and archiving

Boston, MA, July 28, 2022EditShare®, the technology leader that enables storytellers to create and manage collaborative media workflows, has extended its shared video storage solution at Ba Ria – Vung Tau Radio and Television Station (BRT), including the platforms for archiving and increased automation. The new facilities also include an additional four 160TB EditShare EFS-300 storage nodes to add capacity for production requirements.

BRT is the broadcaster for Ba Ria – Vung Tau Province, in the south-east of Vietnam. It has been using EditShare storage for a number of years. Now, with production and transmission demands increasing greatly, it has become necessary to provide automated media management and quality control functionality to boost workflows.

The new installation calls upon the functionality available in the EditShare FLOW media management and workflow software. This gives BRT the ability to manage remote log-ins and to automate content flows through production to delivery. New material arriving at the station must pass local conformance checks and quality control, and thanks to FLOW’s AirFLOW and FLOW Automation, these can now be performed remotely if required.

Ever-increasing amounts of content, completed and in production, meant that it was important to add archiving capabilities, and the extension includes EditShare ARK. This includes LTO-8 tape drives and associated software to ensure automated archiving against business rules, and speedy recovery when required.

“EditShare has proven an excellent storage platform for us, that helps us to be more proactive and flexible during production, playout and storage and we particularly like the system’s flexible user permissions” said Mr. Le An Thi – Technical Manager at Ba Ria – Vung Tau Radio and Television.  “As our production and broadcast demands have grown, we have recognised that we need to adopt more automation to reduce the amount of manual work, while also ensuring that we maintain our high standards. After researching the various products in the marketplace, EditShare was quickly identified as being the best option and they have been able to provide a complete solution – from ingest to storage to playout, including the facilities we need for file quality, transcoding and censorship.”

Based on the end-user’s requirements and initiatives, Editshare’s partner, Danmon Asia with its headquarters in Hanoi – Vietnam, designed the system in conjunction with application engineers from EditShare.

“We are very pleased that we have been able to work with BRT again, to automate their workflows and provide cost-effective content management,” commented Said Bacho, Chief Revenue Officer at EditShare. “This is a great example of the flexibility of our architecture, in that it allows users to start with accessible storage and add functionality and automation as they need it, while always preserving the investment at each stage. We are also grateful for the expertise and understanding of our local partner on the ground, Danmon Asia Ltd.”

How EditShare helped the public television content creator to improve its workflow and save money and time

Fast access to content on the Alibaba cloud

Boston, MA – June 9, 2022 – EditShare®, the technology leader that enables storytellers to create and manage collaborative media workflows, powered the video workflows for the finals of the 2021-22 China Men’s Basketball Professional League (CBA). Working with the international sports department of leading cloud provider Alibaba, EditShare used its FLOW media management tools to allow media companies to upload, download, edit and handle the delivery of the game.

EditShare’s open architecture allowed for customization of the FLOW web user interfaces for CBA, providing each registered user with tailored functionality. The crew on site uploaded all the video material to the cloud, where CBA officials, sponsors, rights-holding media organizations and other registered users could search and download content. Comprehensive security restrictions were applied to ensure no unauthorized person could access the videos.

The purpose of the cloud-based distribution platform was to ensure content was available to all entitled users as quickly as possible. To help this, EditShare tailored the web-based user interfaces for all classes of user, in the Chinese language, to make content searches, access and downloads as simple and intuitive as possible.

“The project was overseen by EditShare’s regional partner ThinkTone Tech in Beijing. “The CBA Finals are a prestigious sporting event,” said Pavel Li, Product Director, ThinkTone Tech. “Fans all over the country and further afield were excited to see their favorite teams in action. We were delighted to help our customer exceed audience expectations thanks to the advanced technology provided by EditShare and Alibaba.”

Said Bacho, chief revenue officer at EditShare, added “Live sport does not have time to wait for video distribution systems to catch up – fans want to see the live action and all the replays immediately. FLOW from EditShare provides access to thousands of assets from wherever you are, especially with cloud access like this project with Alibaba. FLOW also supports all the popular editing platforms, so each user can decide for themselves how they want to work with the content, and what is most appropriate for them.”

The last game in the 2021-22 CBA Finals, when Liaoning beat Guangsha 100:82, was held on 26 April in Nanchang, at the end of almost four weeks of intensive competition, with coverage depending on FLOW from EditShare.

In one of the largest contracts awarded of its kind, Digistor has won the nationwide post production upgrade for one of Australia’s major national broadcasters. The upgrade encompasses existing post-production facilities and the broadcaster’s editing platform, with Digistor providing and installing a hybrid on-premise and cloud solution with remote editing capability and automated speech to text. The new upgraded solution also includes a powerful production asset management (PAM) layer to organise and automate production workflows.

Digistor’s new solution not only replaces a legacy system, but also brings significant workflow improvements and efficiencies whilst leveraging the cloud to enable remote workers and teams to seamlessly collaborate, regardless of their location.

The new upgrade and solution includes many of the key technologies that Digistor specialises in, including EditShare storage, both EFS on-prem and EditShare FLEX cloud solutions (previously known as EFSv). There’s also comprehensive FLOW media management tools, AirFLOW media sharing, FLOW NLE integrations for remote editorial and FLOW Automation to orchestrate workflows. Alongside and integrated with these are HelmutFX to manage multi-user Adobe® Premiere® Pro projects and production workflows, and Audimus AI-based automated transcription.

All new hardware and software will be tightly and seamlessly integrated with the broadcaster’s existing networking and server environment by Digistor’s team, and the cloud components of the system will be hosted by AWS.

In addition to providing, installing and commissioning the new hardware and software components, Digistor engineers will work closely with EditShare to provide a range of services during the implementation. These include workflow discovery to understand, redesign and define workflows to improve productivity, a detailed design phase, project management, and full implementation.

Digistor will also provide the broadcaster with comprehensive staff training services including, superuser training, train-the-trainer and administrator training. When the training has been completed, the new system will then be supported by Digistor’s premium and highly-acclaimed Customer Assurance Plan.

This new and major contract comes after many years of Digistor having long and successful associations with all of Australia’s major broadcasters, where they supply and support solutions for editing, graphics, live broadcast, storage, asset management, playout and distribution – often leveraging the cloud and remote workflows.

A key, important and common aspect in all of these solutions are the technical services that Digistor provides to ensure all projects are successfully implemented and supported over the life of the solution.

In more EditShare-based news, Digistor has also recently designed, installed and rolled-out a multi-petabyte solution in Sydney for a global religious organisation, providing them with the significant benefits and expertise that come with all of Digistor’s large-scale deployments.

Simple to deploy bundles allow creative facilities to concentrate on storytelling

Boston, MA – April 13, 2022 – EditShare®, the technology leader that enables storytellers to create and manage collaborative media workflows, today announced it will unveil its new FLEX cloud solutions at NAB2022 (Las Vegas Convention Center, 24-27 April, booth N3008). This suite of powerful media asset management and storage software solutions provide a straightforward way for businesses, large and small, to take full advantage of cloud services and workflows.

FLEX reflects the powerful business trends in post today, including the migration to a “work anywhere” environment, with ready access to content wherever the creative staff need to be. In adopting cloud video storage and processing, it also meets the move towards an OpEx financial model, with the cloud hosting and storage fees flexing to reflect the level of business.

“EditShare began leading the industry’s shift to the cloud a few years ago by expanding many of its existing core product capabilities – openness, interoperability and scale – to the cloud,” commented Stephen Tallamy, CTO, EditShare. “EditShare FLEX is the result of these investments and we’re excited to show the industry how it can greatly simplify how their teams may choose to work.”

Leading the new initiatives is FLEX Cloud Edit. In its simplest form it provides media asset management, high performance software-defined storage, and virtual workstations in the AWS cloud. The real beauty of FLEX is that it provides a powerful but completely open hosting environment, so users are free to use whatever editing software they prefer.

FLEX Cloud Edit+ adds accelerated file transfer capabilities using the CloudDat transfer software from Data Expedition Inc. It also provides comprehensive workstation management using Teradici’s Cloud Access Manager, all tightly integrated into an intuitive, single-sign on EditShare environment.

FLEX Cloud Sync provides synchronization of content between local EFS arrays and archive storage with leading cloud providers. By automating backup to the cloud, EditShare FLEX Cloud Sync makes it easy to retire LTO tape libraries and gain the huge resilience and availability that major cloud providers offer. As necessary, a FLEX Cloud Edit system can be spun up using all of the content in a customer’s FLEX Cloud sync backup.

“We continually listen to what the industry is telling us, and this is a direct response to current demands,” said Tallamy. “With FLEX, our customers can maintain full control over their working environment and the security of their content, while gaining the huge benefits of remote working and editing-in-the-cloud.

“FLEX offers turnkey bundles that allow customers to get started quickly with a known configuration and pricing profile. Our professional services team can work with customers to tailor the system to exactly meet their needs,” Tallamy added. “The customer maintains operational oversight and budgetary control, with no over-provisioning so no over-paying.”
