Amy and Drive to Survive producer updates collaborators simply and securely
Boston, MA, March 18, 2024 – Box to Box Films, an Emmy® award winning producer of high end documentaries and factual entertainment, has extended their agreement with EditShare and will continue to leverage MediaSilo for delivering work-in-progress content to collaborators. The software allows clips and completed content to be distributed simply and securely, for viewing on any platform.
Box to Box is the producer behind the acclaimed documentary Diego Maradona, which chronicles the career of celebrated football player Diego Maradona. Its Formula 1: Drive to Survive inside motorsports documentaries reached series six on Netflix in February 2024. The company prides itself on its ability to create dynamic and dramatic narratives for international audiences.
For these and many more one-offs and series, each project is managed independently, with different managements, clients, post facilities and producers. MediaSilo gives Box to Box a ready way to distribute dailies and cuts, just to the team involved in that particular production. It provides a completely flexible storage space, allowing it to serve the requirements of different projects, and to allow multiple users to access it.
“On a typical project we would send a cut to maybe two bosses, three or four executive producers, showrunner and producer, post supervisors and more,” explained Box to Box technical editor Rafael Bettega. “We send the picture lock cut to the composer, and to the creative marketing people so they can plan and start the campaign as early as possible.”
“With MediaSilo we don’t need to worry about technology,” Bettega continued. “The users simply receive a review link with a video which they can access with a password, to play just by pressing the spacebar. No need to download additional software; no need to take up licences in an asset management system. And because of the two-factor security it is acceptable to the networks we’re partnering with, which prioritize secure methods for content transfer”.
Bettega first used MediaSilo on Amy in 2013, at the suggestion of the post house he was working with. It now uses the system for all its productions.
“This is the perfect application for MediaSilo,” said Eric Wynalek, EVP marketing & strategy at EditShare. “As massive fans of Box to Box’s productions like Drive to Survive and 6 Nations: Full Contact, we’re honoured to be an integral part of their workflow. Box to Box has a set of diverse users who need to collaborate on content securely, including protection with custom permissions and receipt of usage analytics. The interface allows groups to be set up for each project, with permissions set by user, so each clip and cut is sent to just the right people and the all-important feedback is received quickly.”

Major South African production facility uses EFS and FLOW
Boston, MA, March 4, 2024 – Rapid Blue, one of the leading production companies in Africa, is now using the EFS 300 storage system from EditShare for all its in-house shows. Through the use of EditShare FLOW media management and workflow tools, the company has built a very efficient and cost-effective platform which allows multiple users direct access for review and approval, as well as supporting large post production teams. Rapid Blue’s productions encompass a diverse array of content, spanning from drama serials such as Is’thunzi to studio shows like Family Feud South Africa and Last One Laughing South Africa, as well as location-based reality programs including The Bachelor and Come Dine With Me South Africa. Rapid Blue, who is part of BBC Studios’ international family of production companies, is also the South African producer of international hits such as The Great South African Bake Off and Dancing with the Stars. The result is large volumes of content acquisition, often needing very rapid turnaround times.
When its central storage system reached end of life and began to raise serious issues with reliability, Rapid Blue looked for a system that would deliver content security as the top priority. Workflows needed to be fast, intuitive and cost effective. The EFS platform answered all the questions, and the company installed a 280TB storage network, implementing the system in conjunction with Protea Broadcast & Multimedia, EditShare’s South African partner.
“The whole facility runs off it, and it’s been awesome,” said Jacques Wolfaardt, Rapid Blue Head of IT. “It hosts almost all of our productions, and we can connect all our edit suites – as many as 20 – at the same time on the same content, giving us great productivity and fast turnarounds.”
Rapid Blue uses both Adobe Premiere Pro and DaVinci Resolve non-linear editors, and both are tightly integrated into the EditShare FLOW media management functionality. The relevant parts of the shared storage appear as locations within the software, so editors get direct access to the material they need, and can save cuts directly to the storage network.
“We connect many desktops directly to FLOW, and it automatically generates high-quality proxies” Wolfaardt said, “Producers working on their own computers can select the content they need from bulk ingests before it gets to editors – and reality shows generate a massive amount of content. They can also review and approve cuts, all without tying up edit suites just to look at material. That saves us time and resources, and makes us much more efficient.
“We also use the workflow automation in FLOW,” he continued. “It creates all the deliverables in different formats, and delivers them to FTP sites, without tying up staff or facilities.”
James Macpherson of Protea Broadcast & Multimedia said “Reliability was a key deciding factor for Rapid Blue, and we could clearly show that EditShare leads the field. In production, deadlines are often very tight, and a day’s delay can be catastrophic.
“Jacques and his team would certainly let me know if there had been any issues, but EditShare has delivered the performance they need with no downtime.”

Expanded lineup includes new EFS NVMe finishing nodes, revolutionary private cloud technology and powerful enhancements to FLOW asset management, MediaSilo and Screeners.com
Boston, MA, February 29, 2024 – EditShare, the technology leader that enables storytellers to create and manage collaborative workflows, is celebrating 20 years of outstanding innovation at the 2024 NAB Show (booth SL8087, Las Vegas Convention Center, 14 – 17 April). It will mark the milestone by unveiling powerful new tools for producers and post facilities, new software and hardware, and the initial integration between FLOW and MediaSilo.
EditShare has always pushed the boundaries of media engineered storage solutions and will be demonstrating for the first time the new EFS NVMe, which enables creatives to work in demanding media formats such as DPX, OpenEXR, 4K/8K and beyond – all powered by the media aware industry standard file system, EFS. EFS NVMe provides unprecedented throughput, three times greater than the aggregate bandwidth of previous SSD generation servers, making it ideal for users working with VFX and other high bandwidth, high throughput environments.
EditShare completed its merger with Shift Media in September 2023, and at NAB 2024 the company is already unveiling major steps in integration and enhancements. Users of FLOW, the asset and workflow management platform integrated into EditShare’s storage systems, will be able to directly access all of the tools in the MediaSilo video collaboration platform to distribute viewing copies and collate annotations, speeding still further the processes of collaboration and content sign-off.
Within MediaSilo, collaborative creative editorial review improvements will include side-by-side version comparisons, user mentioning and range-based commenting. These advances further the effectiveness of MediaSilo as a review tool during the production and post timeline. To protect content, MediaSilo incorporates visible and forensic watermarking, which dynamically inserts viewer information into the file and is completely customizable including text and images. EditShare also recently released image and document watermarking support in MediaSilo, further bolstering its security capabilities for assets such as scripts, casting shots, and sensitive marketing materials.
Screeners.com, the preferred press screener solution of publicists and content security teams, will see a fresh look unveiled for the reviewer user interface. Publicists will have more branding customization options including in-video logo watermarks, specific color palettes on network pages, and broader options for key art. Reviewers will see an enhanced OTT-style experience with improved content recommendations, watchlists, and expiration notifications.
“From the day, 20 years ago, that EditShare was formed, there has been a tight focus on freeing content creators to exercise their craft, minimizing the need to interact with the technology,” said Tara Montford, Co-Founder and EVP Sales at EditShare. “Thanks to the close relationship we have with our clients, we are able to understand their needs and rapidly develop solutions to meet them.
“I am particularly proud of the way we have integrated the former Shift Media technology into our overall platform and program,” he added. “To be able to unveil really complex interworking just a few months after the merger is impressive. But what is really important is that it makes both EditShare FLOW and MediaSilo even more effective and valuable for our clients.”
Also on display at NAB 2024 will be FLEX Sync, which builds on EditShare FLEX’s cloud storage management layer. FLEX Sync provides powerful tools to sync with services such as Amazon S3, Wasabi and Backblaze. By making it easy to establish sync destinations and pick storage tiers, users will have complete confidence in their backups to the cloud. FLEX Sync also paves the way to use the cloud for specialist processor-intensive tasks like AI, fully integrated into the workflow.
Now available with all new EFS systems, EditShare Connect features new swift link technology, a revolutionary productivity tool turning your on-premise storage into your own private cloud for remote editing workflows. Reliably connect from any location using automatic latency detection and use your favorite NLE software on any OS to work on your media remotely and securely.
Finally, NAB Show will see the launch of expanded EditShare One functionality. EditShare One enhances the experience of FLOW users by providing a single user interface for collaborating across the FLOW feature set. Organize, thelatest EditShare Onemodule, ensures users can easily identify assets, whether they are stored in the cloud, on-premise or in a hybrid network. It means a producer or edit assistant can preview and log assets, view and edit metadata, and prepare content for work from any connected desktop, releasing edit suites for creative work. Organizejoins the Produce module as part of EditShare One’s transformational approach to asset management, organization and collaboration during video production and post-production.

On premise and cloud storage supports busy production services
Boston, MA, February 6, 2024 – Florida Panthers, the NHL ice hockey team based in the Greater Miami area, has transformed its production workflows with the adoption of storage systems and management tools from EditShare. The new system provides support for a rapidly growing video department, which creates and delivers sophisticated content for in-house screens and scoreboards, and for extensive fan engagement online and through the team’s custom app.
Previously, the Panthers had been using ad hoc storage for video content, together with consumer tools for file transfers. Recent successes for the Panthers – including a Stanley Cup final place in 2023 – meant demand for content ramped up dramatically, and a more fluid, more secure workflow was required. It needed to support four producers/editors creating content at home and on the road, a motion graphics workshop charged with making engaging content for the scoreboard, and the team’s close relationship with the Bally Sports Network, its broadcast partner.
With consultation from sales engineers at 76 Media Systems (now part of Starin Marketing) the Panthers developed a solution around a 256TB EFS300 storage appliance. This is installed at the team’s home, the Amerant Bank Arena in Sunrise, Florida, just west of Fort Lauderdale.
The ground storage network is linked and synchronized to an EditShare cloud implementation. As well as adding content redundancy, the hybrid on premise/cloud architecture allows shooting teams on the road with the Panthers to upload content via VPN, making it immediately available for post and delivery, as well as securing it. The ability to edit on the road is a real boost.
Dennis Docil, Senior Director of Content Services for the Florida Panthers, made the point that key tools like FLOW workflow and asset management and FLEX cloud synchronization are core parts of the technology, making the system easy to implement as well as intuitive to use.
“Before coming back to the Panthers I worked for Ion Media Networks, and they were one of the first users of EditShare,” Docil said. “When we were looking for a solution we looked at the market, EditShare seemed to be the most user friendly for what we needed it to do. It gave us the slick workflows we need to keep on top of our exponentially increasing workloads.
“On top of that, the EditShare price was more attractive than the competition, and that included all the extra software components we needed to manage content and synchronize through the cloud.”
The ability to support large numbers of streams is vital for this sports application. At game time, as well as feeding the scoreboard and all the video screens around the arena the EditShare EFS300 is also ingesting live content from eight cameras, plus live coverage and additional shots from Bally Sports Network.
A lot of material is generated for fan engagement and distributed via the website and app. The Panthers also have a large retail shop alongside the new practice facility in Fort Lauderdale, and multiple screens there create interest and excitement around the team and players, as well as driving sales of merchandise.

Large nearline server nodes directly connected to live production system
Boston, MA, January 16, 2024 – MTV Oy, the leading commercial television company and production house in Finland, recently relocated to a new center in the suburbs of Helsinki, seizing the opportunity for a major technical refresh. The facility serves multiple channels and streaming services, and a key part of the project was to migrate its extensive news and sport archive from tape, a task accomplished with EditShare providing the latest storage technology.
Central storage for all live production is provided by four nodes of EditShare EFS 60NL nearline storage, with a total capacity at present of eight petabytes. The EditShare storage is directly accessed by journalists and producers via their workstations, which are connected to production servers and asset management provided by EVS. The open architecture of EditShare EFS storage makes the integration seamless and transparent.
“It was important that journalists don’t have to care where the material is,” said Tommi Tynys, Head of Broadcasting Technology at MTV Oy. “Whereas getting content from the tape archive could take 30 minutes or more, now users search directly for what they need and it is instantly available to them. We need to take the fight to our competitors, to be first with the news, so performance is vital to us.”
The facilities at the new center are managed for MTV by NEP Finland, and the companies collaborated on designing the new architecture. The complete center was built by Broadcast Solutions Nordic, with Pipeline Media providing continuing support for the systems.
“One of the great things about EditShare is that the storage network is completely scalable,” said Jukka Keski-Loppi of Pipeline Media. “Our estimate is that the MTV archive will grow by 350 TB a year, and we can add storage as we need it without taking the system offline.”
MTV’s Tynys added that the system was also extremely reliable and resilient. “It took a while to transfer all our archive into EditShare,” he said. “But now it is running we have had zero downtime, even with a lot of users demanding simultaneous access.”
Stephen Tallamy, CTO at EditShare added “In demanding environments like MTV, nearline means virtually instant. We designed the EFS 60NL as an ultra-high density storage node for media that needs to be accessible, but does not need the performance of an online production workflow.
“That transforms the architecture of the news and sport facility: the complete archive can be online thanks to the very high storage density of our solution, and at the same time it’s available to all users, when they need it.”
The EditShare EFS 60NL is built for high performance media applications. It uses native erasure coding, eliminating the need for hardware-based RAID while providing complete resilience. The standard chassis holds 60 enterprise-grade disk drives, all hot swappable from the front of the rack.

Brings order to the complex demands of golf coverage
Boston, MA, December 11, 2023 – EditShare®, the technology leader that enables storytellers to create and manage collaborative media workflows, has delivered a shared storage system, with integrated asset management, to Singapore-based Asian Tour Media. The company provides coverage and content distribution for the Asian Golf Tour, the only recognized pan-Asian professional golf tour in Asia.
Asian Tour Media had an existing shared storage network, but its operation was severely limited by its lack of practical production asset management functionality. Editors searching for material were using OS searches, which was slow and inconvenient. As well as good asset management, the new storage system also had to provide comprehensive support for 4k Ultra HD, including the ability to move material as proxies when bandwidth was limited.
The Media Village, EditShare’s partner in Singapore, set up a comprehensive demonstration built on EFS storage nodes and FLOW production asset management. The proof of concept also showed that the EditShare architecture provides ample bandwidth for multiple I/O and concurrent users in 4k.
In capturing all the coverage of a professional golf tournament, the production generates a huge amount of content. The new EditShare installation allows media managers to put markers on all the action points afteringest, so editors can instantly access the clips they need. The system is used on the road at tournaments, and also in Asian Tour Media’s headquarters to prepare packages in advance to make the live coverage more engaging.
“We knew that we wanted to replace our aging video servers,” said Peter White, Senior Head of Production,at Asian Tour Media. “We wanted good asset management, and excellent bandwidth for multiple users and remote access. The Media Village arranged a demonstration, and the rest is history.
“At Asian Tour Media, our content and our staff are the assets.” Whitecontinued. “With EditShare we have found a better way of managing and monetizing our content. We are developing new workflows which will allow us to become more efficient. Time saved means more time to be creative – and more work/life balance for the staff.”
Said Bacho, Chief Revenue Officer at EditShare commented “With our local partner The Media Village we could show Asian Tour Media how they could transform their workflows with EFS and FLOW, and give them the confidence to develop efficient workflows and operational practices they need. That is because the technology is designed for production professionals, making it logical and intuitive to use and absolutely reliable when there is no second chance.”

Helping users and administrators get up to speed quickly
Boston, MA, December 7, 2023 – Jigsaw24 Media, a leading UK media systems integrator and EditShare® partner, has developed two online training courses to help users and system administrators get the best out of the technology. The EditShare 101 courses have been developed and are delivered by David Bourke, who has worked at EditShare and brings in-depth knowledge and a unique perspective to the programme.
The courses give a quick start to users of EFS storage and FLOW asset management. The sessions for users and for admins each run for three hours, and are timed to make it practical for delegates in any time zone around the world to join.
“EditShare is a very powerful platform, and it is designed to be intuitive to use and to manage,” said David Skeggs, Technical & Operations Director at Jigsaw24 Media. “But with any new system there is a natural learning curve. What we are doing is taking delegates through that curve, helping them understand the underlying principles so that they will be able to run with all the functionality, tools and tricks that EditShare brings to post.”
Said Bacho, Chief Revenue Officer at EditShare commented “David has worked as an engineer at EditShare, so he knows what is going on under the hood. This programme is designed as a general introduction and understanding to get users and admins up and running with confidence.
“We know that systems sales around the world often involve application-specific training,” Bacho continued. “Think of this as the starter kit, to get users into the EditShare way of thinking so they can quickly develop their own processes, workflows and structures.”
The first courses offered by Jigsaw will be run in January 2024. For more information see: https://media.jigsaw24.com/editshare-101-training.

Creative marketing agency works with Tyrell to develop future-ready solution
Boston, MA, November 9, 2023 – EditShare®, the technology leader that enables storytellers to create and manage collaborative media workflows, has provided a comprehensive storage and asset management platform for creative marketing agency Linney. The system was designed and implemented by UK reseller Tyrell.
Linney, based in Mansfield in central England, is a leading developer of marketing content for commercial clients. Those clients include some of the most well-known global brands, who rely on Linney for innovative approaches to engage customers, including material for social media, in-store displays and out-of-home digital signage.
The company had an existing central storage system which was a proprietary platform, and had reached the end of its supported life. It had a very clear idea of its needs for content storage and management, which included the ability to access material from multiple locations, as well as hosting in-house editing, grading and finishing suites.
Linney worked with specialist reseller and systems integrator Tyrell on defining the requirements, and developing the system. Tyrell in turn specified EditShare storage, and an architecture that includes three 20 TB SSD nodes, two 128 TB EFS-300 online storage servers, and a 300 TB EFS-40NL nearline storage system, together with the software required to manage the content and the flows between devices. The nearline storage node is in a separate building, providing resilience to the installation.
Critical to the success of the Linney installation is the ability to directly connect post-production tools. The facility includes multiple editing, grading and finishing suites running Avid Media Composer and DaVinci Resolve. Producer/directors also access the shared storage from their laptops, over the office network, so can clip up content in preparation for the craft editors. The ability of the EditShare environment to support all these functions is vital for Linney.
“Our business is about creating and delivering exciting content which enhances the brand values of our clients,” said Andy Dawson, Lead Editor at Linney. “We really need our technology platform to just be there and do just what we need, so our people can focus all their energies on telling stories. This is very clearly EditShare’s brand value, and Tyrell showed how we could implement the technology that would serve us well as we continue to develop our business over the coming years.”
Simon Wocka, Account Manager for Cloud and Solution Sales at Tyrell, noted “Our first role in this was to listen to what the customer was really saying. We knew they didn’t need a like-for-life replacement for their old shared storage, and by understanding what Linney’s business goals are, we could propose a solution that puts them in a really good place.
Said Bacho, Chief Revenue Officer at EditShare, added. “The complete solution is very adaptable and easily configured to the way you want to work. It provides a lot of practical tools, like transcoding on the platform as well as direct access for post production tools. Linney wanted simplicity in operation, efficiency and speed, and this EditShare installation provides all of that and more.”
Linney has appointed Port-P to manage all of its IT services. Tyrell sold the EditShare system to Port-P, who will manage it on Linney’s behalf. The contract includes five years of hardware and software support by Tyrell on behalf of EditShare.
The first phase of the system was installed and handed over in mid-2023. Linney and Tyrell continue to work together to implement additional functionality to meet client demand.

Corporate learning specialist migrates workflows to the cloud
Boston, MA, November 6, 2023 – EditShare®, the technology leader that enables storytellers to create and manage collaborative media workflows, has provided the migration path to the cloud for AMP Creative. With offices in Dallas and Seattle, AMP Creative brings a fresh approach to corporate learning, using video to create tailored programs that are immersive and compelling.
As a successful business, AMP Creative has a growing archive of content and elements which can be re-used in new projects. At the same time, it has to provide support for designers working today, allowing them to manage work in progress and create deliverables, as well as providing secure archiving.
For some years AMP Creative has used EditShare storage solutions to manage its media. More recently, business transformational programs, driven by the COVID-induced need to implement remote working, have led the company towards the cloud for much of its IT. It turned to EditShare to provide the same transparent transition for media workflows.
FLEX is the EditShare workflow and asset management platform for the cloud. It mirrors precisely the functionality of FLOW which AMP Creative already used to manage content and projects, with the same comfortable and familiar user interfaces.
The challenge was to implement a practical, affordable infrastructure to meet AMP Creative’s needs. The solution was to use EditShare FLEX to manage all content storage within AMP Creative’s existing AWS account, moving material between EBS and S3 storage tiers as required, and accelerating file transfers using CloudDat from EditShare partners Data Expedition.
Editors work at remote locations, using Adobe® Premiere® Pro. Projects and bins are created centrally in EditShare FLEX, and high quality proxies are transferred to the edit workstations. Once packages are completed they are rendered against the original media in the cloud. The result is that all creative staff are happy and AMP Creative was able to shut down its traditional server room, a significant saving for the business.
“The pandemic, and the changes in business requirements it created, were transformational for many businesses,” said Ofelia Yánez, President at AMP Creative. “Working with EditShare we were able to come up with a fresh way of working which kept our teams doing what they do best – creating stunning, innovative, engaging content – while allowing us to transform our business, reducing our footprint in real estate and carbon emissions.”
Stephen Tallamy, CTO at EditShare added “It’s clear that we are moving on from the first phase of seeing the cloud as some sort of magic bullet. Now we are creating tailored solutions that use the best of technologies wherever they are housed, to create workflows and environments that really meet the needs of our users. At EditShare we continue to develop the tools and functionality that allow us to get the best out of remote and hybrid working, and the implementation for AMP Creative is a great example of the power we can bring.”
The project was completed in association with US channel partner, TM Television (https://tmtel.com/).

All-in-one storage and asset management package for leading Brazilian broadcaster
Boston, MA, October 26, 2023 – EditShare®, the technology leader that enables storytellers to create and manage collaborative media workflows, has provided an EFS 300 storage node to TV Cultura. The system was negotiated, supported and installed by EditShare’s Brazilian partner, CIS Group.
TV Cultura is a very highly regarded public television network, based in São Paulo in Brazil. Part of the Fundação Padre Anchieta (Father Anchieta Foundation) and funded by the regional government, it focuses on educational and cultural subjects, but also produces and broadcasts sport and entertainment.
The production requirements of a new programme demanded collaborative workflows, with multiple users accessing the same project for editing with Adobe Premiere Pro. TV Cultura needed to provide comprehensive and secure production asset management, along with supporting direct editing on the storage device.
The EditShare EFS 300 is a compact, all-in-one storage appliance that provides high capacity storage – 128 TB in this installation – with transparent access for Windows, MacOS and Linux clients, and integrated production asset management software. In a 2U cabinet it holds 16 enterprise-grade disk drives, fully protected through RAID-6, and hot-swappable from the front. Storage can be increased at any time, either by fitting larger-capacity drives or by adding further nodes.
“We needed to create a new environment, where we could organize and categorize the media as well as provide secure storage,” said Nelson Faria, Director of Engineering at TV Cultura. “The key challenge was for a large production team to be able to work on the same project simultaneously: editors, colorists, graphics and producers. “The EditShare solution allows us to connect workstations and storage on a single network,” Faria said. “Users are still working in the software they are familiar with, but now have access to the organized material they need to finish the programmes quickly and accurately.”
Felipe Andrade, VP of Sales for EditShare’s Brazilian channel partner CIS Group, added “The application at TV Cultura is a perfect match for the EditShare design philosophy.
